Racing Diary
04/03/2010 Whilst on my 'escape the UK winter' trip back to Oz over January I was asked to provide some technical support and advice by the newly established Triumph Australia team. I was also lucky enough to be asked to ride one of the Daytona 675's that they'll be campaigning in the Aussie Supersport championship. It was the team's 2nd pre-season test, and the location was at Phillip Island. What a treat! The only down side was that I didn't do as many laps as I wanted too. Only about 10 in total. Not because the team didn't offer me more bike time but because I was trying to be concious of the fact that I was there to help them and not give them more work than they already have. The short time I did spend fanging around the island were absolutely mint! It was even better than I'd remembered it from the last time I rode there, 11 years ago. The best track on earth!!

Now I'm back in the frozen north and Triumph have been giving me plenty to do test riding wise. So much so that I've missed the first two racing tests at Oulon Park and Cadwell. Not that I'm too bothered concidering the atrocious weather that we've been having in the UK. While I was sunning myself in a far off exotic (warm) secret test location for Triumph, my new team mate Jason O'Halloran was trying to familiarise himsef with the Tag Triumph Daytona 675 race bike at a freezing Oulton Park. And just a couple of days after arriving in the UK from the middle of summer in Australia. Apparently it was so cold at Oulton Park that they had gritted the race track!! Despite only doing a handful of laps Jason reported that he was happy to have got some laps under his belt, and was impressed with the bike.

We have decided to enter the MRO Supersport races on the 6th & 7th of March as a bit of a shake down before the British Championship opener which is being held over the Easter long weekend. Both races are on the Brands Indi circuit. So it looks like the MRO will be the start of my pre-season testing. There's nothing like jumping in at the deep end eh!

See you at Brands!

10/03/2010 We had a great weekend at the Brands Hatch MRO race meeting, and a
promising start to the 2010 season.

It was a bit bloody cold, like about 2 degrees in the day and below
freezing at night, but at least it didn't rain. And despite seeming
like a crazy idea at first, to start my pre-season testing with a race
meeting, it proved to be a very useful test.

The only bad thing was that I had an engine problem, and had to pull
out on the last lap of the Saturday race. My new team mate Jason
O'Halloran ended up winning that one so all was not lost. And it was
the perfect debut for him on the Triumph. On Sunday, Jason and I had a
win each in the two races and I ended up with the fastest lap time of
the meeting.

I'm really happy to have a great bloke and rider the caliber of Jason
riding alongside me this year as it helps raise the profile and
potential of the TAG Triumph team. I'm sure we shall motivate and help
each other achieve some great results this season.

The main thing is that the whole team got together for a weekend to do
a bit of bonding, and to get our brains into race mode. The atmospere
within the team is really great too, which certainly makes going racing
a whole lot easier and a lot more fun.

26/03/2010 After establishing themselves as a professional and competitive team in the British Supersport Paddock in 2009,
OXFORD TAG Triumph are pleased to be entering their second year of competition with full Factory Support from Triumph motorcycles. This partnership enables the team to compete in both the British Supersport and Junior Superstock Championship in 2010.

Spearheading the 2010 British Supersport campaign for OXFORD TAG Triumph will be the team's new signing, former Australian Supersport Champion and Superbike runner up Jason O'Halloran. He will be partnering
Triumph factory test rider and experienced Triumph Daytona 675 campaigner Paul Young.

In addition to this top flight Supersport line-up, the team will continue to show a commitment to fostering new young talent in the form of the OXFORD TAG Triumph junior team. This comprises Shaun Winfield contesting
the Supersport Cup, Ross Ashman the Superstock Championship and two bikes and riders in the GP125 class.

Obviously its hard not to be disappointed having led the race for 12 laps only to suffer with grip problems from mid race onwards. Disappointed because I felt like I did everything right and the tyre just didnt go the distance. Ive got a bike set-up that can be as fast as anything out there but at the moment I cant seem to make a tyre last through race distance once the tyres gone its a bit like not being able to fight back so well work hard between now and Thruxton to get it sorted. I havent forgotten how to lead or win races just yet!
08/07/2010 Just dried out after a very wet and windy knockhill, Paul manged to keep his cast dry and I think he enjoyed watching the rest of us hanging onto the awning in 60mph winds from the comfort of the cab.
A mixed bag of results recently , managed to get onto the Podium in supersport cup at Mallory and our new rider Lee says the Triumph 675 is one of the fastest bikes he has riden (we were fastest in the speed traps at Knockhill).
The team are looking forward to Snetterton next weekend and hopeing for more podium finishes.
